Heavenly Sunlight

This is what the Lord says to me: “I will remain quiet and will look on from my dwelling place, like shimmering heat in the sunshine, like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest.”  Isaiah 18:4

I choose to walk in God's sunshine daily, I choose to sing His praises, I choose to walk in His love for I am a child of the King!

Heavenly Sunlight
by Henry J. Zelly, 1899

Walking in sunlight all of my journey,
Over the mountains, through the deep vale;
Jesus has said, I’ll never forsake thee—
Promise divine that never can fail.

Heavenly sunlight! Heavenly sunlight!
Flooding my soul with glory divine;
Hallelujah! I am rejoicing,
Singing His praises, Jesus is mine!

Shadows around me, shadows above me
Never conceal my Savior and Guide;
He is the light, in Him is no darkness,
Ever I’m walking close to His side.

In the bright sunlight, ever rejoicing,
Pressing my way to mansions above;
Singing His praises, gladly I’m walking,
Walking in sunlight, sunlight of love.

Funtimes With Friends

My sweetie and I spent the last three days in Castro Valley with his best buddy Dan from high school and his lovely bride Robin.  Gary and Dan have been friends for approximately 60 years and we so enjoy it when we can all get together.

We spent Friday afternoon catching up with what has been happening in each other lives and that evening we were trying to decide what everyone wanted to do Saturday.  So Saturday morning, after a great breakfast, we decided to take BART (rapid transit) into San Francisco.  I snapped a couple of pictures while we were waiting for our ride.

It was about a thirty minute ride and we had to stand most of the way as I think everyone else decided to ride that day too.

Once we arrived in San Francisco, Powell & Market Street, we decided to take a stroll down Market Street to the Embarcardero and of course we had to stop at Starbucks for Skinny Hazelnut Latte.  Our stroll took us right through the Financial District.  Being a retired banker this was really exciting to me, to see that many banks in one place and I'm not talking about your average branch but very large buildings.  Loved it!

Once we arrived at Embarcardero our first stroll was through the Market Place Promenade.  So many shops and so little money.   We decided to continue our stroll down Embarcardero to Fisherman's Wharf and look for a place to have some lunch as everyone was getting a little hungry.  We came up on The Waterfront Restaurant and decided to try out their place.

Gary decided to try the Fire Roasted Tomato Pizza, Dan had a Kobe Beef Hamburger while Robin and I had the Rock Cod Fish and Chips.  The food was absolutely delicious and the location was great!  After lunch we continued our stroll heading for Fisherman's Wharf as we wanted to take the cable car back up to Powell & Market Street.

Once we arrived at the wharf we decided to check out one of the shops at Pier 39.  That shop was of course a chocolate candy store.  Robin brought some Divinity and I brought a Chocolate Truffle and a Lemon Truffle.  They may a cost a little more than I normally pay but they were really yummy.

It was now time for that ride on the cable car.  So we asked a couple of people where we could get on at and headed in that direction.  We arrived and to our dismay found out we were not going to get that cable car ride as the Chinese New Year Parade was taking place and the streets were closed.  We were now going to have to take the public transportation so a search for that location began.  Once we found that location the bus took us back to where we had been, The Embarcardero, before we began our quest.  Needless to say we were all very tired and ready to kick off our shoe as we had walked approximately four miles up and down the hills of San Francisco.

Yesterday we spent a quiet day together, watched a movie and enjoyed some more great food.

It was a wonderful weekend with really great friends!!!

Blessed Quietness

This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says: "In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength."  Isaiah 30:15

Have you spent some quiet time today with God and listened as He spoke directly to your heart?  If you haven't why not find a quiet place and take a couple of minutes now.  You'll be surprised how much better you will feel and things will not seem so bad.

Blessed Quietness
by Manie P. Ferguson, 1897

Joys are flowing like a river,
since the Comforter has come;
He abides with us forever,
makes the trusting heart His home.

Bless quietness, holy quietness,
what assurance in my soul!
On the stormy sea, He speaks peace to me,
how the billows cease to toll!

I Know Who Holds Tomorrow

Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.  Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.  Matthew 6:33-34

This weekend my sweetie and I are heading up to Castro Valley to spend some time with his best buddy Dan and his wife Robin.
Gary and Dan were best buddies in high school and have a friendship that has lasted for over 60 years.  Not sure what is on the agenda for the weekend but I know we will have a grand time visiting and possibly a game of Mexican Train in there somewhere.  So now it is time to get up, get ready for a weekend of R & R with my sweetie and let God lead us in the direction He has for us this weekend.

I Know Who Holds Tomorrow
by Ira F. Stanphill, 1950

I don't know about tomorrow, I just live from day to day:
I don't borrow from its sunshine, For its skies may turn to gray.
I don't worry over the future, For I know what Jesus said;
And today I'll walk beside Him, For He knows what is ahead.

Many things about tomorrow
I don't seem to understand
But I know who holds tomorrow
And I know who holds my hand.

Joyful, Joyful

The heavens are telling the glory of God; they are a marvelous display of His craftsmanship.  Day and night they keep on telling about God.  Psalm 19:1-2

Gary took this picture last spring along Yokohl Drive as we were taking in the splendor God has blessed us with.  I love how the flowers, in all their beauty, are reaching toward Heaven.  We can do the same thing!  We can reach up to our Heavenly Father, open up our hearts and give all our doubts and fears to Him.

Today let God fill you with the His light of day!

Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee
by Henry J. van Dyke, 1907

Joyful, joyful, we adore Thee,
God of glory, Lord of love;
Hearts unfold like flowers before Thee,
opening to the sun above.
Melt the clouds of sin and sadness;
drive the dark of doubt away;
Giver of immortal gladness,
fill us with the light of day!

What A Savior

He was despised and rejected by mankind,
a man of suffering, and familiar with pain.
Like one from whom people hide their faces
he was despised, and we held him in low esteem.
Isaiah 53:3

Hallelujah! What A Savior
by Philip P. Bliss, 1875

Man of Sorrows! what a name
For the son of God, who came
Ruined sinners to reclaim.
Hallelujah! What a Savior!

When He comes, our glorious King,
All His ransomed home to bring,
Then anew His son we'll sing:
Hallelujah! What a Savior!

Beneath The Cross

Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.  For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it.  Luke 9:23-24

Beneath The Cross Of Jesus
by Elizabeth C. Clephane, 1868

Beneath the cross of Jesus I fain would take my stand,
The shadow of a mighty rock within a weary land;
A home within the wilderness, a rest upon the way,
From the burning of the noontide hear,
and the burden of the day.

I take, O cross, thy shadow for my abiding place;
I ask no other sunshine than the sunshine of His face;
Content to let the world go by to know no gain or loss,
My sinful self my only shame, my glor all the cross.

Abide With Me

Remain in Me, and I will remain in you.  No branch can bear fruit by itself: it must remain in the vine.  Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in Me.  John 15:4

Dear Father I pray that you will use me daily as I walk with you.  Amen

Abide With Me
by Henry F. Lyte, 1847

Abide with me; fast falls the eventide;
The darkness deepens; Lord with me abide.
When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, O abide with me.

Come not in terrors, as the King of kings,
But kind and good, with healing in Thy wings,
Tears for all woes, a heart for every plea,
Come, Friend of sinners, and thus abide with me.

Love Found A Way

The righteous cry and the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles.  Psalm 34:17

There are have been times in my life that I would not have made it without the love of God.  His love is never ceasing and it is always there free for the asking.  All we have to do is ask!

Love Found A Way
by Avis M. Christiansen, 1915

Love opened wide the gates of light to Heaven's domain,
Where in eternal power and might Jesus shall reign.
Love lifted me from depths of woe to endless day,
There was no help in earth below; love found a way.

  Love found a way, to redeem my soul.
Love found a way, that could make whole.
Love sent my Lord to the cross of shame,
Love found a way, O Praise His holy name!

The Greatest of These Is Love

 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love.
But the greatest of these is love.
1 Corinthians 13:13

Thousands of years ago we received the greatest and best valentine we could ever receive.  That valentine was God's only son. He came into this world to show us what real love was all about.  He loved us so much that He laid down His life for us so that we could have eternal life with Him and our Heavenly Father.

O The Deep, Deep Love Of Jesus
by S. Trevor Francis, 1875

O the deep, deep love of Jesus,
Vast unmeasured, boundless, free!
Rolling as a mighty ocean
In its fullness over me!
Underneath me, all around me,
Is the current of Thy love
Leading onward, leading homeward
To thy glorious rest above!

O the deep, deep love of Jesus,
Spread His praise from shore to shore!
How He loveth, ever loveth,
Changeth never, nevermore!
How He watches o'er His loved ones,
Died to call them all His own
How for them He intercedeth,
Watcheth o'er them from the throne!

O the deep, deep love of Jesus,
'Tis a heav'n of heav'ns to me
And it lifts me up to glory, for it lifts me up to Thee!

Fruit of the Spirit

Ladies we are having a grand time listening to Joyce as we study Fruit of the Spirit.  Today's session was on Faithfulness and oh my what a study it was.  She talked about things that interfere with our Faithfulness and how we compromise our Faithfulness.  I learned today what I am making priorities over spending time with God and in His Word daily.  I learned about the excuses I use and how the compromises I make not only affect me but can affect my relationships with the people in my life.

So ladies join us each Wednesday, 2:00 PM, Mirror Image Ministries, 136 North C Street, Exeter, CA for a great time of fellowship as we study God's Word and learn to put His Word to use in our lives.

His master replied, "Well done, good and faithful servant!  You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things."  Matthew 25:21

Trust and Obey

Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.  John 14:21

This morning these old bones were aching.  My body was telling me that I have not been exercising like I should to maintain my health.  That is exactly what happens to us when we are not in the Word everyday.  Our spirits grow weak and things that normally would not brother us at all are now taking their toll.  I know this is true for me.  To maintain my spiritual health I need to stay in God's Word, study it and let God put it to use in my life.  Do I always do my daily Bible reading?  No I do not as I am just like everyone else.  Life happens and I let other things take priority.  That is something I am working on and with God's help I will get better at it.

So I am going to be better at taking care of my spiritual health as well as my physical health.  Starting today I am going to study God's Word daily and I am going to walk everyday.  This morning I went for a walk with my sweet husband and now I am stepping into God's Word and I am hoping you do the same!

Trust and Obey
John H. Sammis, 1887

When we walk with the Lord
in the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will,
He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.

O Happy Day

I will come and proclaim Your mighty acts, Sovereign Lord;
I will proclaim Your righteous deeds, Yours alone.
Since my youth, O God, You have taught me,
and to this day I declare Your marvelous deeds.
Psalm 71:16-17

There is nothing like a big beautiful bouquet of white daisy flowers to perk a body up.  Add a few sterling silver roses and they are perfect.  They bring the sunshine indoors and freshen the air with their fragrance.

Do you remember the day you fully surrendered your life to God and breathed in His fragrance.  I do, it was August 5, 1973.  I had grown up in a Christian home, I attended church regularly and said I was a Christian but that day I totally surrendered my life to God.  Has my life been all hearts and roses since that day?  Absolutely not!  Will I still have problems and temptations?  Yes but with God at the center of my life no problem is insurmountable and I can live each rejoicing in the fact that I have eternal life with Him. That day I received the fragrance of Christ and it was like a breath of fresh air and I now have His sunshine in my soul.

O Happy Day
by Philip Doddridge, 1751

O happy day, that fixed my choice
On Thee, my Savior and my God!
Well may this glowing heart rejoice,
And tell its raptures all abroad.

Happy day, happy day, when Jesus washed my sins away!
He taught me how to watch and pray, and live rejoicing every day
Happy day, happy day, when Jesus washed my sins away.

There Is Sunshine

For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.  2 Corinthians 4:6

As I sit here this morning wondering what to write about I glanced out the living room window and noticed rays of sunshine.  It is a cool 37 degrees but the sun is shining.  This sunshine reminded me that no matter how dark and gloomy my days may be that God's love, grace and mercy will always be shining down on me.

So today I choose not to let the cares of this world get me down but to walk in the sunshine of my loving Heavenly Father!

Sunshine In My Soul
by Eliza E. Hewitt, 1887

There is sunshine in my soul today,
More glorious and bright
Than glows in any earthly sky,
For Jesus is my light.

Oh, there’s sunshine, blessed sunshine,
When the peaceful, happy moments roll;
When Jesus shows His smiling face,
There is sunshine in the soul.

There is music in my soul today,
A carol to my King;
And Jesus, listening, can hear
The songs I cannot sing.

There is springtime in my soul today,
For, when the Lord is near,
The dove of peace sings in my heart,
The flow’rs of grace appear.

There is gladness in my soul today,
And hope and praise and love,
For blessings which He gives me now,
For joys laid up above.

Happy Birthday Matthew

Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday dear Matthew
Happy Birthday to you

Happy 12th Birthday Matthew!
May your day be filled with fun, sunshine and eat lots of cake.

Love,
Uncle Gary & Aunt Shirley

My Savior's Love

I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Galatians 2:20

The past couple of weeks our pastor has been preaching on the covenant God made with Abram and Sara.  God spoke to Abram and ask him to leave the country he knew, told him that he and Sara would be blessed with a child and they were to name him Isaac.  God also changed their names to Abraham and Sarah.  He showed Abraham the stars in the sky and said you will have more children than the number of stars in the sky.  Abraham did everything in faith that God had asked of him thereby honoring the covenant God was making with him.

How many of us today are willing to do what God is calling us to do?  Are we willing to leave our homes and travel to the foreign mission fields, or for that matter, to witness on the mission fields right in our own neighborhood.  We make excuses that we are to busy, I'm not qualified, etc.  It is never to late to lead anyone to Christ and never make the assumption that just because they grew up in a Christian home that they know who Jesus is.

Jesus made a new covenant with us when He died on that cross and then rose on the third day.  When we accept Him as our Lord and Savior we are a new creature.  We are to share what we have with all we come in contact with.  As the pastor explained this morning, we plant the seed and it will flourish.  May God lead, guide and direct each of us to the Divine Appointments He has for us.

My Savior's Love
by Charles H. Gabriel, 1905

I stand amazed in the presence
Of Jesus the Nazarene,
And wonder how He could love me,
A sinner, condemned, unclean.

Oh, how marvelous! Oh, how wonderful!
And my song shall ever be:
Oh, how marvelous! Oh, how wonderful!
Is my Savior’s love for me!

For me it was in the garden
He prayed: “Not My will, but Thine.”
He had no tears for His own griefs,
But sweat drops of blood for mine.

In pity angels beheld Him,
And came from the world of light
To comfort Him in the sorrows
He bore for my soul that night.

He took my sins and my sorrows,
He made them His very own;
He bore the burden to Calv’ry,
And suffered and died alone.

When with the ransomed in glory
His face I at last shall see,
’Twill be my joy through the ages
To sing of His love for me.

Under His Wings

He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.  Psalm 91:4

I remember seeing this picture every morning when I was growing up as my Mom had this picture hanging in our breakfast nook.  I remember looking at this picture thinking how welcoming Jesus looks with His arms spread wide.  This picture has always made me want to step into those loving arms knowing that once there everything, I mean everything, would be okay.  God did not promise us that our lives would be perfect with no problems or cares because trials, temptations and hurts will still come our way.  His promise to us is that as long as we are walking by His side He will shelter us in His loving arms and give us comfort and peace.

Under His Wings
by William O. Cushing, 1896

Under His wings I am safely abiding,
Though the night deepens and tempests are wild.
Still I can trust Him; I know He will keep me,
He has redeemed me, and I am His child.

Under His wings, under His wings,
Who from His love can sever?
Under His wings my soul shall abide,
Safely abide forever.

He Knows My Thoughts

O Lord, Thou hast searched me and known me.  Thou dost know when I sit down and when I rise up: Thou dost understand my thought from afar.  Psalm 139:1-2

Yesterday I wrote about "He Knows My Name" and today it will be He Knows My Thoughts."  When I stop and think that God knows everything there is to know about me, even what I am thinking, that makes me wonder why He can love me unconditionally.  You see my thoughts are not always pure thoughts.  When I have been hurt my natural instinct is to strike back.  When I see someone that does not meet the standards I think they should have or be where I think they should be, I become judgmental.   When I see someone that isn't dressed the way I think they should, or wearing too much makeup, or their hair is a mess - I become judgmental.  When I gossip, yes talking about someone to others is gossip, and voice my opinion behind another person's back I tear that person down in front of others.

There is an old adage that says, "Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me."  That is a lot of bull!  The sticks and stones will leave cuts and bruises but words leave scars that no one can see.  They often leave a hurt the we bury deep down inside us and cause us to put up walls around us to avoid being hurt.  When I was growing up, my Mom, a very wise woman, would always tell us kids that if you can't say anything good about someone don't say anything at all.

So gals and guys guard your thoughts.  Ask God to remove any unclean thoughts, words or actions and think only good thoughts.  Easy to do?  No but with God at the center of our life all things are possible and He will always lead you in the right direction.

Search Me, O God
by J. Edwin Orr, 1926

Search me, O God,
And know my heart today;
Try me, O Savior,
Know my thoughts, I pray.
See if there be
Some wicked way in me;
Cleanse me from every sin
And set me free.

He Knows My Name

I will give you the treasures of darkness, riches stored in secret places, so that you may know that I am the Lord, the God of Israel, who summons you by name.  Isaiah 45:3

He knows my name!  Out of the millions of people on this great earth God knows my name.  He knows my thoughts, my secrets, and my heart's desires.  He knows when I am angry, frustrated and ready to give up.  He is always there waiting for me to call on Him.  He is there waiting for me to ask Him to take away all the pain and frustration I am feeling and replace with His joy and His strength.

 He knows all there is to know about me!

He Keeps Me Singing
by Luther B. Bridgers, 1910

Feasting on the riches of His grace,
Resting 'neath His sheltering wing.
Always looking on His smiling face,
That is why I shout and sing.

Jesus, Jesus, Jesus,
Sweetest Name I know,
Fills my every longing,
Keeps me singing as I go

Every Good And Perfect Gift

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.  James 1:17

Dear Father you have blessed me so abundantly that I can't begin to thank you enough.  I thank you for the blessing of your Son Jesus Christ who so willingly gave His life for me.  I thank you for blessing my life with a wonderful family that I know I can call on at a moments notice and they are there for me.  I thank you for blessing my life with finances to meet our daily needs.  I thank you for blessing my life with great friends that share the good and the bad times with me.  I thank you for the life you give me each day.  I thank you for the blessing of the sunshine, the rain, this glorious planet we call earth, and the list goes on and on.  Dear Father thank you for all you have done for me and the love you offer unconditionally.  Amen

Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing
Robert Robinson, 1758

O to grace how great a debtor
Daily I'm constrained to be!
Let They goodness, like a fetter,
Bind my wandering heart to Thee.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
Prone to leave the God I love;
Here's my heart, O take and seal it,
Seal it for They courts above.

God Is Faithful

God is faithful: He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.  1 Corinthians 10:13

I am so glad that God has my back.  When those trials and temptations come my way I know that He will lead me through.  Will I have pain, will I feel frustrated, will I question God and His will for my life?  Yes, but I will put my faith and trust in Him for He sees the road ahead for me and I see only the present path.  Praise God for He always has my back!

The Lily Of The Valley
by Charles W. Fry, 1881

He's the Lily of the Valley, the Bright and Morning Star.
He's the fairest of ten thousand to my soul.

He all my grief has taken, and all my sorrows borne;
In temptation He's my strong and mighty tower;
I have all for Him forsaken, and all my idols torn
From my heart and now He keeps me by His power.
Though all the world forsake, and Satan tempt me sore,
Through Jesus I shall safely reach the goal.

Strength

This day is holy to our Lord.  Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.  Nehemiah 8:10

Thank you God for your strength, the strength that gets me through each day as I live each day to its fullest placing my faith and trust in you.

Jesus is Tenderly Calling You Home
by Fanny Crosby, 1883

Jesus is tenderly calling you home
Calling today, calling today,
Why from the sunshine of love will you roam
Farther and farther away?
Calling today, calling today,
Jesus is calling, is tenderly calling today.
Jesus is calling the weary to rest,
Calling today, calling today,
Bring Him your burden and you shall be blest;
He will not turn you away.

I Know Who Holds Tomorrow

The steps of a man are established by the Lord; and He delights in his way.  When he falls, he shall not be hurled headlong: because the Lord is the One who holds his hand.
Psalm 37:23-24

As we travel through this life we will have good days and we will have bad days.  Hopefully the good days will out weigh the bad days.  I am so glad that I have Jesus to walk beside me every day for without Him I hate to think what the day might hold.  God's word tells me to live each day to its fullest and not to worry about tomorrow.  The other day in my devotion there was a sentence that really stood out to me, "When we worry we are telling God that our faith is gone and we know He can't handle whatever the situation is."  I am really trying not to worry about things.  When worry creeps into my thoughts I stop and say a prayer for whatever that worry is asking God to take it from me and give me peace.  Am I always successful?  No I'm not but I am getting better.

So let's each try to live each day to the fullest and give all those worries and cares to God.

I Know Who Holds Tomorrow
by Ira F. Stanphill

I don't know about tomorrow,
I just live from day to day.
I don't borrow from it's sunshine,
For it's skies may turn to gray.

I don't worry about my future,
For I know what Jesus said,
And today He walks beside me,
For He knows what lies ahead.

Many things about tomorrow,
I don't seem to understand;
But I know Who holds tomorrow,
And I know Who holds my hand.

Guard Your Heart

Above all else, guard your heart,
for everything you do flows from it.
Keep your mouth free of perversity;
keep corrupt talk far from your lips.
Let your eyes look straight ahead;
fix your gaze directly before you.
 Give careful thought to the paths for your feet
and be steadfast in all your ways.
Proverbs 4:23-26

The tasks of our daily lives are not always easy.  We get busy, grumpy and sometimes down right rude.  We lose our focus and let everyday situations absorb us to where all our attention is paid on what is happening around us.  We get the attitude of what's the use and mumble under our breath no one cares about me, no one cares what I do and I might as well not even be here.  Guess what?  There is someone that cares about you, will always love you and will carry you when the load becomes to great.  His name is Jesus!

Stay focused on Him and everyday life will not be so hard!

All For Jesus
by Mary D. James, 1871

Since my eyes were fixed on Jesus,
I've lost sight of all beside;
So enchained my spirit's vision,
Looking at the Crucified.

Oh what wonder! How Amazing!
Jesus, glorious King of kings,
Deigns to call me His beloved,
Lets me rest beneath His wings.
